This Makes All The Difference

Some say that it is half empty, but others say it is half full. What is the difference? Is it not right to say that it is both half full and half empty, half empty and half full?

Saying it is half full before mentioning it is half empty is logical. After all, mentioning that it is half empty before half full defies the laws of physics. Whatever is in it should be at the bottom and whatever that is not should be above what is in it. However, it still depends. Observing it from top to bottom makes half empty and half full logical. Still, what is the difference? It is all a matter of perceiving things. Some might notice the empty half first before the full half. Others might notice the full half first before the empty half. Some look from top to bottom. Others look from bottom to top. Those who sees it half full first before half empty says that they are optimist. Those who sees it half empty first before half full says they are pessimist.

Both optimism and pessimism is also a matter of perception. Some might notice the good in life first because they are optimist. Others might notice the bad in life first because they are pessimist. What is the difference? Is it not right to say that in life there is both the good and the bad, the bad and the good? Both are present in life. So what is the difference?

Some might want to make it full, just full. Others might want to make it empty, just empty. Those who want to make it full can just fill it. Those who want to make it empty can just empty it. What is the difference? There is no difference. If one wants to make life good then make it good. If one wants to make life bad then make it bad. Optimists see the good first then the bad but they can either make it good or bad, bad or good. Pessimists see the bad first then the good but they can either make it bad or good, good or bad. There is no difference.

Only fools see it full even if it is half empty and half full, half full and half empty. Only the fools see it empty even if it is half full and half empty, half empty and half full. Only fools see just the good even if there is both the good and the bad, the bad and the good. Only fools see just the bad even if there is both the bad and the good, the good and the bad. This makes all the difference.

The hedgehog’s dilemma

or sometimes the porcupine dilemma, is an analogy about the challenges of human intimacy. It describes a situation in which a group of hedgehogs all seek to become close to one another in order to share their heat during cold weather. However, once accomplished, they cannot avoid hurting one another with their sharp quills. They must step away from one another. Though they all share the intention of a close reciprocal relationship, this may not occur for reasons which they cannot avoid.
